Planning your trip

National park campgrounds are run by National Parks and Wildlife Service South Australia and are booked through its website. Rawnsley Park Station is a private tourist park. Many outback campsites have no listed manager, so identify who runs them before you rely on them.

Outback travel here needs real planning. Many roads are unsealed and can close after rain, summer heat is extreme, and remote desert tracks may need permits and four-wheel drive. A bore or hut in a name is no guide to water or shelter, so carry what you need. Check road conditions and park alerts before you set out.
