What stays private

Moments, Saved Places, trips, Captures, device IDs, and sync state are private. Publishing a Camp Spot makes a copy of your notes public alongside the selected photos and exact pin. Later private edits do not change the published notes.

Location permission is optional. If you deny it, you can still search the map, long-press a point, and Seize a Moment using those coordinates.

Sharing Camp Spots

When you share a Camp Spot in the app or on the web, its name, any note, exact pin, locality, sharing month, and selected photos become public on the Billy Camp map and spot page. Anyone can view and share the spot link.

Your published notes are visible on the public spot page. If you share while signed in, the spot page also shows your Billy name and avatar, including any avatar photo you upload. Your account name, email, device ID, private trip IDs, and sync state are not shown.

You can edit or remove your own Camp Spots. Signing in lets you manage spots linked to your account on another device. Without an account, web access ends when you leave or reload the page; app access depends on this device. Admins can remove public spots.

In the app, you can make a Short Clip from your photos and your own words. Finished clips stay on your device until you delete them. Copies you share elsewhere can remain.

Map, search, and Google

Billy Camp uses public campsite and map data to show places, search areas, directions, and campsite detail pages. When Google-powered place panels, photos, reviews, or maps are used, Google may process information according to the Google Privacy Policy .

The map remembers your last view on this device only, for up to 30 days.

Diagnostics

Release builds may send crash and error diagnostics through Sentry when configured. Billy Camp does not intentionally attach account identity, device ID, private notes, coordinates, request bodies, tokens, or Session Replay to diagnostics.

Analytics

The public website uses Google Analytics 4 and cookieless PostHog for visitors without an analytics consent prompt. We do not send your name, email address, or account details to either service.

Google Analytics 4 measures website traffic, acquisition sources, page visits, app-store clicks, and outbound links. It uses cookies and may process your IP address and device information as described in the Google Privacy Policy.

PostHog measures public page visits, app-store clicks, and product actions such as map searches, place opens, directions, sharing, and account creation. We remove search text, coordinates, and place identifiers before sending PostHog events. PostHog uses no analytics cookies or persistent browser identifier. It uses network and browser information to create an anonymous identifier that changes daily. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals prevent PostHog capture where supported. We do not record your screen.

App analytics is optional and off until you allow it. If you allow it, a random ID stays on your device so we can measure feature use and return visits. You can turn it off in Analytics. Your account details, location, notes, photos, and search text are not sent.

Feedback and deletion requests

Use App Feedback in the Billy Camp app, the support page, or email [email protected] for support, bug reports, privacy questions, and deletion requests. App Feedback includes only simple app context such as source, screen, platform, version, and build.

Accounts are optional. Apple or Google verifies your sign-in through Firebase Authentication. Your account links public Camp Spots and campsite submissions. Sign in to recover your saved campsites and check-ins. Trips, Moments, photos and clips stay on the device where you made them. You can delete your account in Account. This removes your account, its public spots, saved campsites and check-ins. Trips, Moments, photos and clips on your devices stay.
