Planning your trip

Most campsites here come from the state's official topographic mapping, which shows where a camping ground is but not who runs it. Some are run by Cloncurry Shire Council, a state-owned dam operator or Lake Callide Retreat. Search the campsite name on the Queensland Parks camping pages: if it is listed, you will need a camping permit, and park alerts show current conditions.

Distances are long, many roads are unsealed, and rain can close them for days. A bore, tank or lagoon in a name is no guide to water, so carry your own. Confirm road conditions and access with the manager before you set out, and plan fuel and supplies carefully.
